Bookcases Built for Your Collection
A bespoke bookcase isn't just shelving — it's a piece of furniture that transforms a wall into a feature. Our bookcases are designed floor to ceiling and wall to wall, maximising storage and display space while creating a visual centrepiece in any room.
We build bookcases for living rooms, home offices, hallways, bedrooms, and dedicated library spaces. Each one is designed around your collection — whether that's hundreds of paperbacks, oversized art books, vinyl records, or a mix of books and decorative objects.
Every bookcase is individually designed during a home consultation, manufactured in our workshop, and installed by our own team. The result is a bookcase that uses every available inch of wall space and looks like a permanent architectural feature of your home.
The Limits of Standard Shelving
Freestanding bookcases come in fixed heights and widths. They don't reach the ceiling, they leave gaps at the sides, and they look like furniture placed against a wall rather than part of the room. Over time, shelves bow under the weight of books, backs come loose, and the whole unit starts to look tired.
Flat-pack shelving is even worse. Cam-lock joints loosen, shelves have weight limits that real book collections exceed, and the materials deteriorate quickly. A bookcase filled with books is heavy — it needs to be built properly.
A bespoke bookcase is built to handle real collections. Shelves are supported properly, the structure is anchored to the wall, and the design fills the space completely. It's furniture that gets better with use rather than falling apart.

Construction, Materials & Design Options
Bookcase carcasses are built from 18mm high-quality FINSA Hidrofugo premium grade MDF or high-density board, providing a rigid structure that won't bow or twist under the weight of a full book collection. Shelves are supported by steel shelf studs or dado-housed into the uprights for maximum load-bearing capacity.
Design options include fully open shelving, sections with glazed glass doors (clear or frosted), sections with solid panel doors for concealed storage, integrated lighting (LED strips above shelves or spotlights), and combination designs that mix open display with closed storage.
For homes with architectural character — particularly the Victorian and Edwardian terraces common across Jesmond, Heaton, and Gosforth — we design bookcases with traditional moulding profiles, cornice details, and plinth bases that complement the room's period features.
We also build bookcases that frame doorways, wrap around windows, and incorporate reading nooks with built-in seating. For floor-to-ceiling installations, rolling library ladders on rail systems are available as a functional and striking addition.
How Much Do Bespoke Bookcases Cost in Newcastle?
Bookcase costs depend on size, materials, features, and complexity. We provide detailed quotes after measuring your space.
A single floor-to-ceiling bookcase typically costs from £1,500 to £3,500. Wall-to-wall installations spanning an entire room generally range from £3,000 to £7,000. Designs with glazed doors, integrated lighting, and library ladders can cost more.
